Every Market Committee is body corporate as defined in
Section 14 of AMP Act 1939, being self financing Institute, earning the finance
through
levy of Market fee on Agriculture Produce brought or sold in the notified Market
area declared under section 3,4 of APM Act 1939, and License Fee
from the Dealers, making expenses on
development work, Salaries and Pension of employees etc.

Under
Section 7 of APM the Government by Notification establish a Market Committee for
every notified Market Area, having 18
Members for Class-A and 10 Members for
Class B,C,D Market Committees, the Members elect Chairman, Vice Chairman amongst
them
and perform their duties
as defined under section 9 of APM Act, as under
a) enforce the provisions of Act, and Rules, Bye-Laws made thereby
b) arrange open auction of Agriculture Produce
c) establish one or more fair price shop
d)
setup or acquire markets, warehouse, cold storage (including
refrigerated mobile vans)
e)
undertake any other duty under the Act as Government may, from
time to time direct.
At present 71 Market Committees are functioning in Province of Sindh, out
of
which 08 are consitututed under the Act whereas 63 Market Committees are
functioning through Authorized Officers for every district, authorized
under section 25-A of APM Act,1939 (Emergency Powers) since long time.
The Officer authorized look-after all the Market Committees of District as
Authorized Officer and exercise all the powers of Chairman/Committee.
